Peraica Challenges Stroger to 'Clean Campaign'

The Chicago Defender reports that Peraica took his bid "straight to the doorstep" of Todd Stroger yesterday:

Cook County Board Commissioner Tony Peraica (R-Westchester) took his bid to become the next county president straight to the doorstep of Democratic opponent Ald. Todd Stroger (8th) on Wednesday.

In front of Stroger's South Side aldermanic office where the largeposter of his father, recently retired board president John H. Stroger, remains proudly displayed, Peraica challenged his competitor to join him in a "clean campaign pledge" by no longer accepting campaign donations from county employees and vendors.

Ald. Stroger was not available for comment and not present when Peraica made his announcement.

'Little Poop Butt' Makes News of the Weird

We found this one published in the Knoxville, TN Metro Voice "News of the Weird" column:

In June, when Cook County, Ill., elections supervisor David Orr questioned the ethics of the family of Cook County Board President John Stroger (whose illness forced him to resign but not until the family delayed long enough to discourage potential successors, so that Stroger’s son would have a better chance of winning the vacated post), a Stroger ally called Orr a “little poop butt.”

Young Todd Aided Black Separatists?

This from an article by Steve Patterson of the Chicago Sun-Times:

Ald. Todd Stroger, the Democratic nominee for Cook County Board president, and the 8th Ward organization he represents have given almost $8,000 to a group that believes blacks should not be taxed and should not be involved in interracial relationships, and which supports the creation of a separate state for blacks.

Will Young Todd Come Clean About His Finances?

This from the Sun-Times:

Going by campaign dollars alone, the race for Cook County Board president doesn't appear close.

Democrat Todd Stroger, who replaced his politician father on the ballot, has a paltry $36,130 in his fund, while his Republican challenger in the November election, Tony Peraica, has $535,000 in hand.

But records released this week also show almost $500,000 that could be available to Stroger through his father's campaign funds, and they don't include proceeds from a July fund-raiser.

Well, Todd, that's much different from what you told Fox News Chicago's Duane Placko this weekend...this from Tony Peraica's Web site:

Is Todd Stroger deliberately trying to mislead the media and voters of Cook County regarding his support from his father's political and financial machine? Or does he just not know any better?  Asked yesterday during our joint appearance on FOX Chicago's Sunday morning news program just how much money from his father's campaign accounts would be transferred to his campaign, Todd evaded the question by responding, 'Uh, there is, uh, very little money left, uh, less than a hundred thousand.' Probed further as to the state of his own campaign's finances, Todd replied 'Me? I'm starting from scratch. So, I'm starting off with ten thousand, and working my way up.'

In fact, the latest D-2 reports on file for John Stroger's political committees show quite a bit more than $100,000 left -- Todd was actually off by 600 percent. Friends of Stroger had $258,387.50 in its bank account as of June 30, and Stroger for President had $349,236.50 as of June 30. All told, that's $607,624 in these two political committees.

And Todd didn't even get his own numbers right. Rather than the 'ten thousand' he says he has in his bank account, the D-2 report for Friends of Todd Stroger showed $36,130.58 cash on hand as of June 30.

Since Todd's misstatement of the facts allowed him to evade Dane Placko's original question, I'll ask it again: Todd, just how much of that $607,624 that was sitting in your father's campaign accounts as of one month ago do you expect to have transferred to you?

C'mon, Todd.  Come clean.  Dontcha know the status quo just isn't going to fly this year?  Take a look at the poll numbers...
